bill0755
Looks like Trotz has resigned as guess one cup is good enough for him and no reason to go for back-back cups with Caps. Assume headed to the Island with Lou L, as think that’s the only coaching job available.
Thunder
Wow!!! I did not see that one coming. George Costanza style. Thank you, I'm out! Your NYI speculation is interesting. Would add to the arguments in support of Tavares re-signing. Edited June 18, 2018 by Thunder
Dougall
Islanders could make sense given its the only one open and if they resign Johnny T there is a superstar. I heard some speculation a couple of weeks ago that if he stepped down he might take some time off this year and surface in Seattle as an expansion coach there. He has ties to the west coast I think and he has experience with expansion teams.
bill0755
Read he had a two year renewal at a fixed salary if he won the Cup. Apparently the fixed salary was below what he felt was market value for a Cup winning coach. They apparently attempted to renegotiate the two year deal, but could not come to an agreement, and Trotz decided to resign. He he will likely sign a nice long term deal on the Island at a big number. Will this keep Johnny T on the Island? Maybe or maybe not. Assume Todd Reirden will finally get his chance at the head coaching job with the Caps and will be the coach going for back to back cups. Thunder
The money issue is an important point. I don't know what the Isles' financials are like. I assume he's looking for >3M, which may feel like a big chunk of change to spend on a non-player for a team with limited revenue.
djb738
If he goes to the Islanders what are the odds Tavares stays?
byz
Cup-winning coach? Greater, I'd say.
Sammynos
Trotz was seen getting off a flight in Newark...have to think Lou rolls out the red carpet then uses it as leverage for Tavares. Then uses that to hopefully persuade Carlson and Grub to follow their former head coach.
Salros
Tavares, Carlson and Grubauer with the Islanders would be a winning combination to make the Islanders a contender. I just don't see how this happens.
James
They've got 28 million in space, and need to sign 4 F, 2 D, an a goalie. Carlson, Grubauer, and Tavares combined is at least 20 million... probably more like 23. Plus you've got Anders Lee and Beauvillier up for new contracts next year, and barzal the year after. Yeah, it ain't happening.
Dougall
Looks like Trotz to the Islanders is a thing https://www.tsn.ca/trotz-closing-on-agreement-to-become-isles-new-head-coach-1.1119297
Sammynos
Saying it’s likely 5 years worth at least $4m per season.
Salros
AS a PREVIOUS owner of Tavares, if he re-signs with the Islanders now, I'll never watch an Islanders' game again. 😁 1
djb738
Would be interesting to know what salary the Caps offered Trotz. From what I heard is he wanted a 5 year deal and the Caps wouldn't commit to going that long.

Thunder
It's like playing 7 posts of separation. Whatever topic is discussed in the opening post, there's always a way to make it all about the Habs in the end. 2
