byz
http://www.tsn.ca/burns-sharks-agree-to-eight-year-64m-deal-1.614211 Quote Burns will make $10 million a year for the first four years of his extension, then $7.5 million in year five, $6.5 million in year six, and $5 million in both year seven and eight. We should stay up to date on our hockey news! Burns signs a mega contract. The last 3-4 years of that deal will probably hurt, but I don't think there's any denying he's at the very least a top 10 D currently in the league, and will be one for the next few years - certainly top 5 for fantasy! Thai Domi
These front loaded contracts are good in our leagues. Easier to buy out or drop near the end. I think the last couple years for Luongo are a buck fifty and twenty-three cents.
Bear in a Hammock
So what should you do with Burns? Would you keep him on your team? I would think so, he is a fantasy hockey wizard. He excels in all stats. What do you guys think?
Bagwell
You would have to, right?
Ralphdog
The Burns deal is the reason we have a lockout every few years. Theres no way Burns is worth that hit in year 4 and beyond. The owners must be saved from themselves.
Bear in a Hammock
My hunch would be that he is worth it for about 5 years. Then he only has 16.5 mill left on his salary and at a 40% buyout.... 6.6 mill left? That's not even that bad. If he starts to suck before that then its a large contract with a hard buyout. byz
Yeah they're paying him to "go for it" over the next 4-5 years and will deal with the consequences/rebuild later. You can look at Chicago who's a little further along that window (though Marian Hossa is still killin' it). What you see a lot of though, is that there are a few teams more than eager to take on the old/bad contracts from winning teams in exchange for a simple pick. It's why teams like Detroit (Datsyuk), Philly (Pronger) can keep bringing in new guys even though their windows to win should've closed years ago.
