bill0755
sure they will be alot of Hockey NIght in Canada games for Canadian teams, but actually surprised about the number of US National TV games for Canadian teams not in Edmonton or Toronto. Guess I'll have to get NHL Center Ice again in the US

frozenboards
Serious question: Do you think this is driven by the NHL and media pushing McDavid and Matthews (for their "star appeal")? It just doesn't seem right there will be no Habs games (and I'm a Detroit guy).
Dougall
US tv is based upon successful and exciting teams. Montreal was neither last year. Not a shot…just a fact.

James
I think it’s mostly about TV market size, and US-based audience for that team. Also wouldn’t be surprised if there are competing TV deals in Canada that are blockers. it would be interesting to know what percentage of these games include a team from NY, LA, Chicago, Philly or Dallas…. The top 5 TV markets in the US.

James
I can almost guarantee that the people programming this stuff aren't thinking that deeply about star power, but I could be wrong. Fifteen years in the TV business, but I haven't really touched sports, so maybe things are different there. Generally speaking, though, it's about providing locally relevant content to the largest possible audience... because a 5 share in NY is worth a lot more than a 15 share in Pittsburgh. Totally agreed. That would explain in particular why Chicago have 14 games, it's about market share.
