  2. Definitely an embarrassment but I’ll bet it’s one of the loudest arenas in the league. What’s more embarrassing… a huge empty arena where you can hear a pin drop, or a tiny arena that’s louder than anywhere?

Yes, of course the team should be moved somewhere where they can sell out a pro sized arena. But as long as they’re in AZ, they’re better off in that place than a big empty one, imo

And Mullett Arena is a hell of a name for a hockey arena… come on.

  3. There’s a difference between trading with the intention of trading back later (which is illegal), and trading with the option to trade back later. No doubt about that. But it’s pretty much impossible for anyone to confirm your intention. It’s all a very grey area.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to make a trade with the assumption that you’ll be allowed to trade back later, because the committee is well within its rights to block that future trade.

  4. I don't doubt that it's happened multiple times.  That particular time was BIH and Slough Shark in the WCFL, but yeah I'll bet it's happened before.

The Executive Committee was actually created after some nastiness went down when I unilaterally vetoed a rental-type trade (I believe Josh Harding was involved?).  I hated making the decision on my own, so I pulled the committee together the next year.

  5. Oh wait, I stand entirely corrected.  Did a little research into this... the Executive Committee discussed it extensively back in April 2019, and the outcome was the creation of Appendix G of the rulebook.

"Additionally, a trade that the Committee feels violates any of the following specific rules may be sent to arbitration or even rejected outright (this list will be added to as situations arise, and is not in any way exhaustive):

    1. Player Loans – A player (or draft pick) cannot be traded to a team with the expressed intention of being traded back following the completion of the season (or at some other predetermined date).  Cap space can be loaned in this manner if a circumstance permits it. "

  6. Ok still behind (listening to 15 minutes a day), but the trade lee describes would probably pass. It’s not a rental in the purest sense… gotta be at the deadline for that, I think. And as long as the GM knows there’s no guarantee of the return trade being approved, I think it’s ok.

  7. Imagine a weekly fantasy hockey podcast so perfectly tailored to our format that it will literally tell you who your opponent is targeting in the Amateur Draft.  Good news!  If Ralphdog is in your league, such a podcast exists.

Yes, our very own Capwise legend (how is this dude not in the Hall of Fame yet?) Ralphdog (aka "Lance" or whatever) has started a fantasy hockey podcast called Fantasy First Hockey and it does not suck.  Truly... I listened to three full episodes before I posted something about it because I wanted to make sure it doesn't suck.  It doesn't!

Find it on Spotify and enjoy listening to people talk about Capwise outside the confines of your own brain!  Episode 2 is embedded below (but be sure to go back and listen to episode 1, too... it's very enjoyable).

Also, couldn't it potentially be easier to score 50 goals in the first 50 games? Games could be seen as less meaningful? Team chemistry might be lower? Players slow to re-accommodate to the NHL's pace? Just throwing ideas out there. Obviously these aren't solid facts.

I do think there tend to be more goals scored in the first month of the season.  No evidence to back that up though.

  9. 50 in the first 50 is more impressive, in my opinion. To start the season so hot is remarkable.

50 in any 50 is also very impressive though. Even ovechkin didn't pull that off.

Of course, Matthews plays a lot of games in Canada, so you have to factor in the exchange rate.
