well, I’ll be at Game 3 tonight in Pittsburgh, so I’ll be rooting for the Pens as I would guess there might also be quite a few Ranger fans in the crowd.

I’m a fan by also a realist, and looks like Louie will finish out the series, and not sure Louie will be able to help the Pens win round 1. If they lose in round 1, then fasten your seatbelts Pens Fans as it will be one of the most exciting off-seasons for the Pens in a long time with Malkin, Rust, Letang, Rakell, and DeSmith and Rodrigues all UFA’S, and I can envision a scenario where possible only Rakell, maybe Malkin at only a deep discount return next season.

I am hoping they consider bringing back UFA and Pittsburgh naive Trocheck this offseason.

Could be Domingue's coming out party. Enjoy the game!

  2. Bill, in the 80's and 90's I was a diehard Pens fan. I wore 66 in midget for Mario. The first jersey I ever bought was a Pens jersey that I put 67 on the back. I actually still have it but it is in bad shape lol. Playing EA Sports hockey I was always the Penguins, and my created player was always number 71, long before Geno. Not sure what happened along the way, but even though Crosby was always one of my favorite players, as was Malkin, my love for team has faded hard. To the point where I was watching them play the hated NYR(Kreider on Price effect) and couldn't figure out who I was cheering for. Weird how it plays out, but I did decide I was going for Pittsburgh. I find it the same with a few other series too. Not sure who I want to win until I actually watch a bit of the series. And I haven't watched much to be honest....

  3. Nothing but crickets. Good talk.

Ok how about this one.... When your (NHL) team is out of the playoffs, are you less interested, way less interested, or do you carry the same amount of interest?

  4. I imagine a monster funeral back home. I would attend for sure. Have to admit listening to guys talk about him over different highlights this morning did bring tears to my eyes. The hockey world, especially Quebec, mourns the loss of one of our last hockey heroes. Rest easy Guy.

  5. Pretty sure that's the year the Habs got eliminated by Minnesota, and if memory serves me right, when the Habs lost you freaked and threw off your eyeglasses and grabbed the flimsy coffee table and flipped it and smashed your glasses repeatedly. I remember being like whoa- this guys crazy!!

That might be my first hockey memory LOL

  6. Thanks for sharing man, what a good read.

One of my first hockey memories, not the first, but one of them was in June of 1980 right after Nystrom scored in OT from Tonelli to win their first cup.

I remember being downstairs out front of my aunts house on Outremont Ave just below Van Horne, where my brother and I were staying at the time. I had a hockey stick in my hand, not even sure if I had a tennis ball or was just practicing deking with small rocks, but I remember telling every person that walked by, "Hey the Islanders just won the cup!"

Being only 8 years old or so at the time I didn't realize the Habs were larger than life to everyone in the city, but now looking back I can understand why almost everyone who I told basically shook their head at me and one person I remember said "Who cares!"

But man was I ever happy the team I was going for won, and in dramatic fashion.

We moved to Whitehorse not long after and I remember roaming the little community labyrinth behind our townhouse and found people watching the finals on a small TV in one of the many small fenced "backyards". Cheering for the Islanders vs the Canucks. Again not the popular choice aha. Yukon is basically Canucks territory.

My love for Bossy and the Islanders was very overshadowed by my love for Guy Lafleur and the Habs, but #22 did have an effect on me growing attached to the game I still love.

One last thing I will add to the story. My family did move back to Montreal and we settled in Park Ex, and in those early days we'd go exploring the laneways and I remember finding a Mike Bossy rookie card in one lane, soaked from the rain. Of course I picked it up and kept it but just like all my 20 Gretzky rookie cards, somewhere along the way it got lost. RIP Mike.
