With Toronto and Montreal having gone 40 years since their last playoff match-up, I can't hope for anything else, regardless of the outcome. Over the years my lust for watching the game has diminished and the thought of watching that series is giving me butterflies.

That would be so much fun!  Frankly I think the Leafs are far from ready to win a cup.  They have so much skill, a great nucleus going forward, but they are not a "team" yet.  It's sickening to see them lose all the physical battles and not compete.  They don't give any comeback when their goalie gets run for God's sake.  They get hit and hit never go after a guy.  No response.  The more physical teams like Wash, Boston, St. Louis all know this and take advantage.  Dubas is a really smart GM, but he doesn't seems to have bought in to my line of thought.  The skill factor is there, especially with a couple high end D prospects maturing on the farm.  They just need to round that out with some more physical guys to inject some team toughness.  And those type players can be acquired much easier than the skill guys.  Man I miss the type of player Toronto had when they last had a competitive playoff team.  Sundin was supported by guys like Gary Roberts, Domi and even Darcy Tucker.  Come on Dubas, the trade deadline looms.

I think actually Toronto matches up better against Tampa than Boston.  Or they could get to play the Islanders, which would be better than Bos as well.

Of course if somehow they meet Montreal that would be a BLAST.  But I think they match up against Montreal well also, although facing Weber is no fun.

    Anyway enjoy tonight's game.

Habs only 3 points behind now with a rematch Saturday Night against the Leafs

But what's even more cool than that is if the play-offs started today Habs would play Islanders and Leafs would have to play Boston.

Pretty Pretty pretty cool indeed :D

ha ha ha this might take a few turns yet.

  3. Well I don’t mind the Leafs protecting their branding as much as possible.  They have that right.  And actually Toronto is a pretty cool city.  Great restaurants, entertainment, cultural diversity and lots to do.

But what’s really cool about Toronto is that just 6 days ago they went into the Habs’ barn only 1 point ahead of them, beat them in OT and are now 6 points up. Even # of games played.  Nothing square about that my friends.  Pretty pretty pretty cool!

Skill is hard to buy but grit can be found. I think Muzzin is just the first new addition.

Yes true.  And they played well against Ducks tonight.  Often they let down against struggling teams.  Muzzin had a big night and looks like he has made a real difference.

  5. Geez,  I am a diehard Leaf fan.  It is frustrating the hell out of me how they are playing.  They don't hit anyone, literally do not use the body at all.  I find myself missing Uncle Leo and Matt Martin.  I know they have skill to burn.  With a nucleus of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Rielly, Andersen, Nylander and maybe Kadri and Kapanen they should be very good well into the future.  But for God's sake play with some heart!  I think Kadri is less irrating to the opposition because he can't do it alone!

Last night in Detroit they were lucky to come out with one point!  They refused to dump the puck in at the opposition blueline and continually lost possession trying to enter the zone.  Del Larose ran Andersen but got no pushback for it... nothing.  I blame this on Babcock.  No way a coach should let this happen.  I think they are tuning him out.  I also think Dubas has to do something more than Muzzin.  He had his issues last night but he gets a pass for a couple games yet.   But they need some heavy forwards.  Gauthier is massive but he doesn't play physical at all.  He's not scoring so WTF is the point of having him there.  Matthews is a big man but is not physical.  Tavares is not too bad that way and neither is Kapanen.  But beyond the core I mentioned get some grit FFS.  It's sickening.

I really think that if they don't get past the first round, or miss the playoffs, (it's possible) Babcock has to go.  This team is seriously underperforming.  They don't look like a team who could get by the first round.  Not a bit.  While I'm optimistic for the future...

My god I miss the likes of Gary Robert,sTie Domi and Darcy Tucker like  in those playoff battles with Ottawa.  I can barely watch Toronto right now.

All right I will be delighted if they prove me wrong.  I really hope they do.

    Sorry about the rant!

  6. Referring is horrible in the NHL.  Last night Zach Hyman gets crosschecked into Luongo.  He gets jumped But not much of a fight.  Refs hand goes up so I think it’s either the crosschevk or roughing.  Nope.  Hyman called for goaltending interference.  There were other examples of bad reffing in the game also.

  7. Trocheck left the game against Ottawa on a stretcher.  Fell ackwardly being engaged with an Ottawa player along the boards.  Nothing viscious just his skate seemed to get caught and his lower leg twisted and took a lot of weight as he fell.  Maybe fractured ankle?  Was in a lot of pain.  The injuries keep piling up.  Tough one for the Panthers.

I actually just saw a tweet about this yesterday...I believe it said something about there currently being 90 injured players and the average at this point in the season is 85. If I can find it, I will post.

    Found it:

Thanks for that.  It's hard to believe that what we are seeing is not much out of the ordinary.  Partly I think my teams are getting hit harder than the average and I'm just a bitter SOB.  lol

  9. Is it just me or are there way more injuries this year then in recent seasons.  As an example I have a full IR in GNFL and no room in IR for Braydon Schenn.  Vasilevskiy is a huge one.  Boston’s defence is hit again with Chara out for a period unknown.  Arvidsson out for weeks recently announced.  Matthews of course.  Too many to mention!  I’m spending a lot of time managing IR.  In Div 1 I’m on my third IR replacement for the injured Paul Byron.  The replacements keep getting injured.  Nuts!
