My guess Bob, the Bread Man, Duchene and Dzingle all go UFA, and none resign in Columbus....

I actually think they will take a final shot at Panarin and when he says no, they will try to get both Dzingel and Duchene signed.

  2. I think that Pearson is a higher upside guy and fits the mold of a top-six player in the Pittsburgh system more than Hagelin did. I could see Pearson playing will on a line with Crosby who likes to control the puck below the goal line and dish it to the middle. Chances were that Hagelin was gone after this season anyway, so the extra years at a low(er) cap hit are a positive for Pittsburgh.

I wonder where this leaves Sprong...he was set to be the guy they shipped out, but I assume money was the issue. There is clearly a disconnect between him and Sullivan.

  3. Got himself a 1 year deal worth $5.125. Have to think this makes him MIGHTY attractive at the deadline for a team making a run. If he performs, he could find himself on a contender with this true “rental” contract.

  4. Turning out that the biggest losers of this year will certainly be anyone who is loyal to the Senators.

Holy moly, is this just getting worse and worse for them. Reports are that there was absolutely a deal in place with Tampa to trade Karlsson and it included quite a king's ransom as to be expected. Couple of NHL pieces, prospects, few 1st rounders, etc. Not so fast my friend! Melnyk apparently stepped in and said he would not allow the deal to go through because Tampa wasn't taking Bobby Ryan...

  5. I had this discussion with a friend of mine last night too...

For STL, Berglund and Sobotka were total salary dumps. I don't think they are complete "throw-in's" for Buffalo, however. Buffalo has a very young team right now and I think these two will be good forward depth to help relieve some of the pressure that the prospects might have been under to make the opening day lineup. It likely gives Alex Nylander another year for his development. I am not saying that Berglund/Sobotka are going to light the world on fire, but I think they will benefit the Sabres more so in what the depth allows the organization to do than the on ice product.

Pretty clear the Leafs don’t see Matthews as a number 1 center.

I don't necessarily think this is true. I think they saw the opportunity to lure in another #1 center so they they are super difficult to play against. Pittsburgh has it with Malkin and Crosby. Two guys who are #1 centers on just about every team, but work in tandem to create matchup nightmares.

  7. Truthfully, I have never been a Dougie Hamilton fan. However, I think Carolina did well here. They moved two guys with question marks on them reaching their full potential and got a proven 50 point powerplay QB.

It sounded like Lindholm wanted to be paid like he already proved his worth and Hanifin was probably looking at the Ekblad contract heavily. I think that both will do well in Calgary, but the shadow of a doubt is hard to ignore.

Smart for the Caps...hate it as a Hurricanes fan.

Absolutely. Obviously, you would love to have Grub down in Carolina because I think the competition between him and Darling does them a lot of good. What do you do now? Maybe take a look at Bernier? Mrazek? I think Carolina really needs a 1a/1b goalie situation and not for the "who is our starter" controversy, but to light a fire under Darling's ass because he clearly came into that situation thinking that the crease was his.

Hurricanes offered the 42nd overall pick and to take Orpiks contract but the Caps wanted Grubauer out of the Metro.

I am having a hard time hating some of the decisions the Capitals management have been making. This was SMART.

It's the Predators. They seem like a well-run organization. If he did this and it's verified, he'll be off of the team - without a doubt. With any luck, again if it's verified, he'll get the same treatment as Voynov.

In what way? Banned from the NHL or deported? Can't be deported since he's from Michigan, but I assume you mean for the NHL to tell him he's not welcome back.
