I seriously doubt he will resign in Vegas and will gladly go to UFA and sign with the team that offers the best deal or location he prefers.

A pretty good return for a for a one year rental player, with a good prospect a draft pick and unfortunately a salary dump (Tatar).

Bergevin also confirmed Pacioretty will be signing with Vegas.

It's like the aborted LAK deal, but this time the new team and player were able to agree on the new contract.  Terms of the new deal haven't been made public yet.

well  paciorretty trade wont solve   our problem XD

I believe Skinner had a no trade clause though, which was an added a constraint in comparison to Pacioretty. Also, age aside, my biased ass still thinks Pacioretty is a superior player.

  3. Interesting situation.

Without an extension, I would think Pacioretty's value will be higher near the trade deadline than it is now. Do the Habs hold off until then to maximize the return? Hard to imagine. It's tough enough for everyone to keep a  player who is unhappy on the team for two thirds of the season, it would be especially awkward when he happens to be your captain.

I'm also super curious to know why he became such a persona non grata so quickly. He was named captain in 2015 with the full backing of the team, the season after Therrien is allegedly overheard calling him the worst captain ever, and the season after that Bergevin apparently wants him gone.

No its just a matther of having team capable of spending up to the real cap onstead of the cap - taxes..   as it stands

    Fla effective cap is 49.29m

    Mtl is 36.57m

    This  is not a non-factor

I don't get how it's a non factor in trades. Players signed to inflated contracts by Mtl would be virtually untradeable  to low tax markets.

They've got a ton of work to do to get that team back though... not sure how much space they'll have left after Trouba, Morrissey, and Hellebuyck.  And you've still only got 9 forwards signed...

You know Hellebuyck's gonna get paid... probably $7 mil at least, right?  Morrissey you can maybe talk into a bridge contract, but when you look at comparables you've got Gostisbehere or Ristolainen pulling in 5+ years, 5ish million... he's gonna push for that.  But he's not arbitration eligible, so.  Trouba, on the other hand is also gonna get paid, like Hellebuyck.

I think you're looking at 17-18 million, minimum, for those three players alone.  That leaves you with 6 million to sign at least 4 F (maybe 5), and a D.

Trouba is rumoured to be asking $8M I believe.
