I don’t know if the teams are locked out from trading or not. Surely the player would have to agree to any trade as he has signed the offer sheet. Early indications are certainly that the Canes will match. So if it was a real play to secure the player it seems destined to fail and the Habs are in limbo for a week. Very strange. hope someone offer sheets Marner a similar deal. The only negative for Canes is the 5 year term. I’m sure they would like longer.
The limbo here is a non factor tho as no decent ufa are availble unless someone value jake the mistake gardiner at 7m+ and all other offersheet candidate prolly will still b there

Habs, why even bother. Sure to be matched. Sorry I don’t get it.
I have Aho on my GNFL team and I am happy about this though.
they banking on canes not beeing able to afford the bonuses, or they had some talk about trading for aho and bergevin upped the ante with a pressure offersheet, whats unclear is if they can actualy trade in those 7 days ( montreal and canes) or is this locked out as well for them
Great capewise cap hit thats for SURE

So part of the $21M now and part on July 1, 2020
something like 12m this week and 10m in 12 month + the fact that this is his structure
usly if im not mistaken players are paid in 3 separate date yearly of those check some of it is held in escrow ( a substantial amount btw thats why toews came out in the media about it , somehting like 30% is beeing held out)
Signing bonus are exempt of escrow and are paid in 1 swoop on july 1st of every year
out of the 42.45m contract over 5 years, 3.5m are actually paid ( 3x a year x 5 years ) so in 15 payments, the rest (~ 39m) are pure Fat checks every 1st of july starting today( in 5 days) -
5 days from now. And on july 1st 2020

Must have the inside scoop that dondon doesnt want to poney up the money. Its a good try that wont wotk but a good try.

Bergevin is funny saying that Aho wants to be in Montreal. He may but part of me thinks Aho signed it because the Canes weren’t offering the salary he wanted and this got him there and he also preferred a 5 year deal to a 7/8 year deal. Also, this sets up Aho nicely with a potential lockout coming up because I believe he would still receive bonus money during the lockout just not salary.
the question is do you want anderslee at 9m ? or gardiner at 7.5?

and wait the full week of course
what a pain that week is going to be for montreal only to find out we got nothing LOL

yeah bergevin is saying it right now. the aav doesnt matter its only a Money move, they beleive carolina cant poney up, why not big buisness move XD

Good question but I think they made it very clear from the beginning they would match any offer and it's not like they are in salary cap trouble and can't match it.
still think the issue is the actual bucket of money, not the aav, if montreal thinks carolina are cheapos i mean thats the only angle that make sense

But if they are referring to $21M of just tickets that doesn't include media, merchandise, and other revenue streams.
yeah thats it, I think a trade can be made within 7days right? between montreal and carolina

Hurricanes made $109M in revenue in 2017-2018 and that was with no playoffs. Exactly and that statement from Waddell made it sound like they have already made up their mind.
makes no sense to not match, but why offersheet someone if you dont have a chance to get him

Where are you getting this "gate revenue" from? The Hurricanes owner is a billionaire I don't think $21M affects him much. They have continued to say they will match any offer on Aho...we will see if they stay true to their word. Waddell just had a press conference and said probably won't match immediately and may wait out the 7 days so Montreal can't sign anyone else.
tsn reported on the Gate revenu thing, and yeah they should wait 7 days for the answer, so i basicly the canes are holding that 8m cap space and draft pick so mtl cant do anything for a week

Interesting, point Veg. Maybe there’s something to this, then. Like I’ve been saying for years now, Marc Bergevin is a brilliant strategist. Hope this works out!
is there rule against negotiating the compensation during the 7 day period ? like if mtl said hey look will give u drouin on top of the 1st 2nd and 3rd

Interesting but not enough, even accounting for Mrs. Kotkaniemi’s delicious home cooking.
were all caught up in the AAV , but thats not the point here, caroline doesnt care about AAV, but 21m is exactly the gate revenu they took in last year. Bergevin cant br throwing out an offer like that if he thinks its going to be an instant snap match

Tell Montreal thanks
its pretty cheap, but super front loaded 21m in the first 12 month and no team wants to give them 5 years

As for Carolina, not sure they’re poor so much as they are trying to squeeze a good deal out of Aho
Montreal just offersheeted AHO 5 years 42.25m

They can't deal with it? Where is this coming from I'm pretty sure they could handle that if they needed to.
