  1. The deal is completely legal and follows the current CBA. They would have to wait until January 1st before they can sign the extension, but they can go 8 years at that point since they would own his current contract. They can afford the huge contract for this season upcoming because they will have tons of cap space.

The risk is all on JT in this scenario.  If he gets seriously injured before he signs an extension then he could be out the guaranteed 6 more years he would have had. Otherwise he can cash in.

  2. How does Hoffman get traded so easily? If his cyberbullying of a teammate and his wife is severely overlooked, I guarantee Voynov's past gets overlooked. Its the standard athlete set of rules.  If they perform on the field of play people will disregard and ignore.

I don't agree with it myself and it is 100% wrong, but that always seems to be the way.

It's the Predators. They seem like a well-run organization. If he did this and it's verified, he'll be off of the team - without a doubt. With any luck, again if it's verified, he'll get the same treatment as Voynov.

And Voynov is looking to return next season

  4. Surprising that anyone went after Hoffman.  Can't believe that Ottawa was able to trade Hoffman before the pending case was resolved.  Dorian was in a very tough spot and got a better return than I thought he would.

On the other side, San Jose is media anonymity and a perfect place for Hoffman to go.  The Sharks get a goal scorer that they need and if he and Kane can stay out of trouble the Sharks could be really good.

  5. Islanders could make sense given its the only one open and if they resign Johnny T there is a superstar.

I heard some speculation a couple of weeks ago that if he stepped down he might take some time off this year and surface in Seattle as an expansion coach there.  He has ties to the west coast I think and he has experience with expansion teams.

Just saw that Tavares and the Islanders have had daily contract talks....there is still hope for the Tavares owners after all.

With Lou in town instead of Garth there is a chance. A couple of things need to be ironed out through.  A permanent arena that is not the Barclays Center and a goalie.  Ilya Sorokin said earlier he wouldn't come over from Russia if Weight was the GM still.  That is not the case now and I wonder if there is a chance for him.  That guy has been a STUD in the KHL and could stabilize that team moving forward.  Hockey players tend to be loyal and not move.  My guess is he signs and stays in Long Island.  Before June 20th?  That we'll have to wait and see.

  7. Players were awesome.

We were in the MGM after the game when Brayden Holtby came in with the cup.  Unfortunately my cell had died by then so no fun pics :(...although what happens in Vegas...stays in Vegas I believe they say :).

Somehow we were able to get some free drinks off their tab which I heard local rumours on Friday that it crept up over $100K that night!

On the flight out Friday Kelly Hrudy was on my plane and he was sitting beside us at the gate. One of the nicest men I have ever met. He did not hesitate to chat and was engaged in the conversation. Having said that we treated him with respect and didn't harass for autographs etc.

  8. I guess it depends on the cap space you have available.  I grabbed him as a rental, but now that the potential is there I will at least consider. While 7 is high, it is less than 2 mil difference from this year.  As stated, he is a multi cat guy and being in San Jose he is away from hockey media.  It seems like a good fit for him as a player.

Read somewhere on Twitter ( think it was Elliot Freidman) before that Lou has already spoken to JT in an official Islander capacity role.

I heard that this morning as well.  Is that not considered collusion by NHL standards?

Lou is only a good move if Johnny T stays.  At some point he needs to ride off into the sunset.
