  1. I agree....sounds similar to a Kovalchuk situation all over again.
  2. I did read that if true this is a contract that could be heavily looked in to and scrutinized by the NHL.
  3. I have heard this scenario discussed multiple times and from what I have heard it is not against any current CBA rules although it may be heavily frowned upon.
  4. Supposedly Montreal and LA had a deal agreed to that would send Pacioretty to LA and he would sign an extension....but Pacioretty refused to sign the extension. Pacioretty and Montreal are not happy with each other right now.
  5. Yeah, just a matter of when it happens now.
  6. Welcome to the reentry draft John and congrats on the contract!
  7. Just read from a local media person here in Raleigh that the Hurricanes haven’t even gone to Skinner with a single trade yet to see if he would approve. Belief is teams may wait to see where Tavares lands before the interest in Skinner really heats up.
  8. Caps resign Carlson 8 years $8M/year
  9. We have to trade Skinner or we lose him for nothing. He is a UFA after this year and I think he has indicated he has no plans in resigning.
  10. I think the hope is now that they trade Faulk and Skinner for some scoring forwards and more preferably a solid Center. As far as goalie, I believe they will sign a free agent and give Darling another chance to win the job. The goalie they sign will be one that pushes Darling and potentially is capable of being a potential starter.
  11. I heard the whole museum thing as well. If true and that was held against him than that’s unbelievable. Also read that he didn’t take losses as hard as other players and that rubbed teammates the wrong way. If these are examples of what has lead to the notion that Hamilton may be disliked in the locker room, than it is pretty poor. From what I understand Hamilton is pretty quiet and keeps to himself. I don’t see anything wrong with that at least you know you won’t have off ice distractions with him.
  12. All in all I think the fact that there are so many mixed reviews about this trade says that it was a pretty even trade. Time will tell on this one. While this trade didn’t really address any of the Hurricanes big needs (goalie, center, scoring forwards) I think it gives them the flexibility now to trade Faulk to fill one of the voids.
  13. Some of the names being tossed around make me a bit nervous just based off of past history with the Hurricanes. We have a bad history with signing backup goalies that show some potential and they never amount to anything. I agree, we need someone to push Darling. From what I have heard Darling has shown a commitment to try and turn things around. It was reported that he was 15 pounds over where they would have liked him to be. Did that contribute? Not sure. It has been said though that he was staying in Carolina this summer to really work on his conditioning. There are a number of goalies I wouldn’t mind seeing the team sign at the right price. More proven are Bernier and Lehner and I don’t mind either one. I think Lehner is a little under rated playing behind that terrible Sabres D. I still Mrazek has some upside and has shown glimpses in the past. Hutton is also an intriguing name. We need to do something though. As well as Cam performed last year I’m not sure it is a good idea to keep him around. We need change and the ability to move forward.
  14. Smart for the Caps...hate it as a Hurricanes fan.
  15. The Hurricanes are no longer rebuilding but looking to win and make the playoffs. The thought around here in Raleigh is that if the team can get a solid goalie they should make a real strong push for the playoffs. I agree that’s Hanifin has tremendous upside but I’m not sure he ever reaches that. I think there were concerns that he would never live up to his potential and top 5 pick status and he is going to want a contract that doesn’t translate to his production. The outcome of this trade really comes down to Hanifin and Lindholm’s development and ability to reach their potential, as well as Fox signing in Carolina. I would not be surprised to see Hamilton have 50 points this year.
  16. I think Lindholm could have thrived under Brind’Amour and wish we had the opportunity to see how he performed playing under him.
  17. I agree that Hanifin has had the same number of points in his first three years but the difference is that in his first three years he played 61 more games than Hamilton. Lindholm certainly may shine with Gaudreau and Monahan but he was given the chance to shine with Aho and Tuevo as well and didn’t. He is also going to a team that has the same head coach that he has had the past couple of years and where he has underperformed. I still think Lindholm has the potential to reach 60 points but can he reach that potential.
  18. Just read that no matter what team he signs with he is expected to sign a deal that pays $12M/year.
  19. I agree that I think Lindholm will be better than Ferland. Ferland brings grit and physicality which the Hurricanes have been trying to build their team around. Lindholm wants $5M/year and I’m guessing Hanifin is at least looking at around $4M/year.
  20. Islanders offer Tavares 8 year $88M contract
  21. I agree. When they seem to be counted out is when they go and win cups.
  22. Hanifin has been very up and down. Goes a stretch where he shows why he was a top 5 pick, then goes stretches when you wonder what he is doing on the ice.
  23. Will say that Lindholm is a very smart player and has great vision and is a good passer.
  24. Lindholm wanted $5M/year....Canes weren’t giving him that as he hasn’t shown he is worth that. 40 point player isn’t worth that much.
