  1. Oh yea, I forgot about Leivo. He’ll work as a 4th line centre. Still lots of other talent in the minors who might work with him and Brown.
  2. Kapanen, Kadri and Johnson is better than a lot of third lines out there. Kapanen and Johnson would be in most teams’ top six. Fourth line one of Brown, Cracknell, Martin? Maybe that’s a bit below average, but they can add a depth piece at the deadline.
  3. Did Pittsburgh trade for Johnson’s rights? I thought teams were not allowed to talk specific dollar amounts during this period.
  4. I can't believe no one has thought of this before. It's so simple and seems to fit exactly in the rules, but against the spirit of the rules. This has Laurence Gillman written all over it. He was just hired by the Leafs. When he was with the Canucks he thought up the Luongo contract, and the idea to keep a player on IR from the trade deadline onward in order to stay under the cap... and then just bring the player back for the playoffs (Sami Salo). He was also previously hired by the league to aide with expansion, presumably to make sure there were no loopholes in the deal.
  5. Here are some more stats to suggest Hamilton is better. In fact, they back up the statement that Hamilton is elite. IMO you don’t trade elite unless you’re getting elite back, but there must be more to the story that we don’t know about. Apparantly Someone said on the radio that Hamilton went to the museum when the rest of the team went out for dinner together. That doesn’t sound too bad...
  6. Ah, the Fox news does help a bit, but it still seems like poor asset management. I think some team out there would be willing to pay for him. I’m probably harder on Lindholm than most. But I owned him for a year and a half and was pretty disappointed. $5 million a year is steep for a guy who puts up 40 points and doesn’t do much else. If you don’t want Ferland then trade him for a pick - don’t overpay a complimentary middle six winger. Sven Baertchi can be had at the deadline. Hanafin doesn’t seem as good defensively as Hamilton, but I don’t have any stats to back that up. I see Hamilton as a top 10 dman in the league, and Hanafin is a second pairing guy right now.
  7. Calgary got destroyed here. Hamilton is waaaay better than Hanafin will ever be, and Ferland is probably a shade better than Lindholm. Throw in a pretty good prospect and you’ve got a doozie. I’d be hitting the veto button if this came through our site .
  8. That would be great! Dobson would work, too.
  9. I'd be happy if the Canucks took almost anyone but Tkachuk with their pick. But I was hoping for anyone but Virtanan when he was picked, and that didn't work out...
  10. Haha, it was intended as a joke. Bit it if it does count them I’m sure I can find another source saying the same thing .
  11. Yea. That’s a contract dump for the Sharks, and a dman who is a long shot to make an impact. Terrible trade for Ottawa, but at least they dealt with the issue quickly.
  12. I don't think he has influence, I think he's relaying to the public what he's hearing from scouts and GMs around the league. I'd think rankings are adjusted because teams are looking at game tape. Season is over so GMs and scouts have time to focus their attention, have debates and fine tune their lists.
  13. This is laughable for MTL. They’re the new Canucks. Now I expect them to draft Tkachuk. The Domi contract even fills like an overpay. Best at case scenario they traded a guy who can play centre for a winger of equal skill, and that’s if Domi rebounds.
  14. It’s too bad for us owners. I think he’ll re-sign with the Islanders, but not in time :(.
  15. If he gets back to his 2015-2016 numbers it's a great deal for CHA owners. And if Arizona improves then his +/- and his PP numbers should come back.
  16. I was sort of wondering this myself. Will Putin pressure Ovie to take the Caps to the White House? Obviously Smith-Pelly would not be on board, and players would have to choose sides.
  17. They cheered Bettman! Don’t they know the rules??
  18. You must be from Ft St John then! It’s nice to have another northerner around. I have young kids, so we can’t make most games. But we try to make it to the one or two day games they play a year, but it’s always a good time!
  19. I'm jealous! It was quite a game. Would have been awesome to see live!
  20. Congrats to Ovie and the Caps!! Glad to see the hard-hitting sniper win a cup. If Ovie was Canadian I think he'd be the NHL's favourite player. As a Holtby owner I'm glad he's the starter again . As someone in Prince George I'm psyched that Brett Connolly will bring the cup here! (This is a thread about the Capitals, right?)
  21. Didn’t Perron come off the bench to go after Overchkin in that incident? It looked like it, though Perron didn’t do much once he got out there.
  22. Pekka is turning 36 this year. They're going to have to move on from him sooner than later. I can see them dealing with St. Louis, Philly or Carolina (maybe NYI/EDM) and then using the goalie they get back to tandem with Saros.
  23. I’ll take a stab at a few. 1) Fringe guys are better than most think. All they need is ice time and confidence of the organization. This is why it’s so hard to evaluate prospects. Skill isn’t the only factor. Favour of the coach/GM is huge. 2) Duchene isn’t that big of an upgrade over Turris. Turris knew the complicated system and it’ll take Duchene awhile to get it. The Sens got a lot of luck last year. Aaaand teams are starting to figure ways around Boucher’s systems. 3/4) ???? Heinen’s shooting % is a little high...? 5) Kopi has a bad year last year. This year he’s back to normal, and is getting a little luck. 6) The Oilers traded their best wingers and now lack secondary scoring. They also still lack top pairing dmen. The league has also started to adjust to McDavid’s speed, but I’m sure he’ll figure things out.
