  1. Unless Carey Price steals game after game Montreal will be a train wreck. With Ottawa and the Isles the same or worse. Both the Habs and Sens have made brutal deals dating back to the Subban deal. That was a dousey.
  2. Well for sure, a lottery win and getting Matthews. But the Shanahan led management group decided to do a true rebuild. Something Burke didn’t do. And guess what, the fans bought in. So they also for the most part drafted talent, as opposed to size. Prime example being Marner in 2015. Actually an even better example was Nylander in 2014 in the 8 spot. They passed on Nick Ritchie, thank goodness. Canucks took Jake Virtanen 2 picks ahead of them that year. Also it is in what they didn’t do, they didn’t deviate from the plan. And they didn’t make stupid moves for aging players on long term contracts. Since Shanny came on board they have been a remarkably well run group. And I think Dubas will continue that trend. Well that is my hope for sure.
  3. Yes I was kind of thinking that Lehner just might be a bounce back candidate myself. But with the Isles that will be tough to do.
  4. Yes pretty much although they seem intent on trading their captain, Justin Faulk. Or do the story goes. They also have Jake Bean who might get a look this year.
  5. 4 * 4.55 for De Haan. Solid D-Man but that seems like a lot of money for a player like him. Canes like him a lot I guess.
  6. Martin will be gone I figure. Cracknell could be with the Marlies. I think Lindholm at Center, Brown and, well an open spot for now. I like the Grundstrom kid but not sure he’s ready. Leivo?, meh, maybe. I wouldn’t be upset with keeping Martin but he seems halfway out the door and his salary needs to go before next season. I figure Grundstrom is the new Uncle Leo come next year. I also really like that 3rd line. All 3 are defensively responsible yet with speed and a scoring ability. This is a fun time to be a Leaf fan.
  7. No it can’t be until noon Eastern I guess it is. But it is probably correct. Signing could work out well for Buffalo, who could finally turn some kind of corner.
  8. Just need the transaction freeze lifted. I’m ready to look st some deals in NAFL and GNFL.
  9. Hmm maybe that’s another reason players might want No trade clauses. Otherwise they have no protection from being traded to more oppressive tax regimes, like Pretty much all of Canada. On another note the longer there is no news on Tavares tonight, the more likely he is leaving NYI. My money is now on Toronto. Endorsements may easily wipe out the losses on the taxes. I think if he were staying it would have been announced by now. Meet the new face of Canadian Tire! Lol
  10. Hmm, not what I was hearing but could be.
  11. Report says they have reached an agreement. But can’t be made official until the 1st.
  12. It's a lot to be sure. leaves about 3.35 mil each for the other 22 players on any given team. I don't think he's 2 million better than the average NHL player. But it's probably not that simple because teams can, and must, employ low cost entry level players to fill out the roster.
  13. You could be right but he has ties to the city and can get an 8 year contract. Lou is involved and will leave no stone unturned. Most hockey commentators I’ve heard give best odds to NYI. But who knows. If he leaves the island I hope the hell he doesn’t go to the Bruins or Bolts. Go west young man!
  14. I’m sure this deal can’t be put in writing at this time nor could it be verbally expressed publicly. So the extension is not enforceable anyway. If done for all intents and purposes it will be simply a 1 year deal. Maybe with a wink wink nod nod attached. Cant see the Leafs braintrust putting the extension in writing, which would be a violation. offering the 1 year 15.9 deal is a legal and creative way to compete for Tavares. But it does put risk on Tavares and I don’t expect him to sign a 1 year deal. I’m sure they also offered him a conventional deal of 7 * 10 plus as well. May not be enough though. i expect he stays put.
  15. Yes. That’s a good point. Well it should be sorted out well before the entry draft I imagine.
  16. Question is, does Mrazek get a NHL job? I think he’s been a little unfairly beaten up and could be a good backup for some NHL team. Lehner I think will find a job and Hutton should easily find a good placement.
  17. Well one of these media outlets is wrong. Oh well we will see how it all plays out.
  18. Just reported on tsn.ca that Skinner has turned down a “few” trades this summer. He has a NMC. Could be hard to get full value for him. Ferland is also a UFA next year.
  19. Trade Skinner and Faulk for scoring forwards. But Skinner is a scoring forward. I agree trading Faulk for a scoring forward may make sense. Maybe the Leafs can help in this regard. But if you trade Skinner you have to replace those goals to get back to even. The goal in part seems to be to change team chemistry. Understandable I guess.
  20. I really like this deal for Calgary. Noah Hanifin is 21 year’s old. Was a #5 pick overall. Made NHL immediately after being drafted. Tremendous upside. There must be dressing room concerns or something about Hamilton. Boston shipped him out. Now Calgary. There’s something. Also Calgary has concerns about being able to sign Fox. The college guy risk. Lindholm is a good young player as well. Yes Carolina got an excellent proven Dman in Hamilton but gave up a younger one who will probably equal or better him. And Ferland is a decent player with tenacity and grit. And fortuitously they get Fox who may be more likely to sign in Carolina than Calgary. So maybe that turns out to be the kicker on the Carolina side of things. So that may make it a good deal for both teams. I’m confused by Carolina right now. They seem to want to churn over the roster. Are they rebuilding? Trading these young assets for older players says no. Picking up Hamilton and Ferland says they want to compete now. If they get the goaltending maybe they can turn it around like Colorado did, but that’s a big if! in the meantime I think Calgary did well on the deal. Maybe good for both teams though.
  21. It’s a no win. I think they have to keep this year’s pick though. Really good young player is at least something positive for Sens fans. If they are a lottery team next year it will sting though. Oh my.
  22. The Sens are a mess. Somehow went from Conference finalists a little over a year ago to ... this.... it’s a circus.
