  1. So Isles spent more money for what seems to be a downgrade in goal? Jeez
  2. Huge deal for the Leafs. Kadri and Rosen for Barrie and Kerfoot. I like it. I knew something else was coming, whether it meant Kadri going, or even Nylander, Kappy or Johnsson. Down side is Barrie is on final year of contract taking him to free agency. AAV right now 5.5 v Kadri at 4.5. Will miss Kadri but when you miss multiple games via suspension in your team’s first round playoff series twice in a row it is time to go.
  3. Nice prove it deal for Canes on Mrazek. He looks to be the de facto starter with Nedeljkovic ready to step in if heor Reimer (likely) fails. I guess Lehner is a prove it deal too. Hard to grasp that one though.
  4. I don’t know if the teams are locked out from trading or not. Surely the player would have to agree to any trade as he has signed the offer sheet. Early indications are certainly that the Canes will match. So if it was a real play to secure the player it seems destined to fail and the Habs are in limbo for a week. Very strange. hope someone offer sheets Marner a similar deal. The only negative for Canes is the 5 year term. I’m sure they would like longer.
  5. Habs, why even bother. Sure to be matched. Sorry I don’t get it. I have Aho on my GNFL team and I am happy about this though.
  6. Yeah love to see them. Must have been great to be at the watch party and the parade!
  7. Yes NHL gm's are going to have to learn to be more hardline. One would hope anyway. The big difference of course is that there are 31 NHL teams versus 14 Capwise teams. So there are twice the "elite" players per team to go around with Capwise. Thus for sure the the cap difference is necessary. GM's here at Capwise will have to be more careful than ever with the contracts they take on just the same. there are some great players out there who are on contracts which may not be worth it. (eg. Erik Karlsson maybe). We do have one get out of jail free card in the JV overager slot. But even that has to be dealt with before the end of any given season. I think these challenges are what makes Capwise so great though. Enjoy NHL draft week everyone!
  8. That's a really good point. And its an 8 year, 92 mil contract. So 11.5 for 8 years for a 29 year old defenseman who has had some injury problems. Compare that to 12.50 for the 22 year Mcdavid, or even the 6 years left on the 28 year old John Tavares's contract. This is a huge risk for SJ.
  9. Man the NHL is becoming a stars and scrubs league. This contract makes John Carlson’s look pretty good. Is E Karlsson even ownable in CHA leagues?
  10. Well you know they took Boston to 7. And to be honest Freddie Andersen has not put in a Binnington like performance in critical games. And Kadri gets himself kicked out for 5 games so that center depth disappeared. So those 2 issues are what cost the Leafs that series. And maybe the cup. But looking at the playoffs this year it was totally unpredictable what happened. Who the hell knows now who can win out of the 16 teams that make the playoffs. How the hell did Tampa not win a game. And let’s not even talk about the refereeing or lack of it. For the record I don’t know what the hell Babcock is thinking sometimes. His player usage is just plain questionable. Sure spare Matthews during the regular season but when in a game 6 or 7 ride your top horses. It’s how it’s done. If Babcock doesn’t get them pass the first round next year I’m sure he’s gone.
  11. It’s not that I love the city of Toronto actually, I’ve always loved the Leafs. And I became a Blue Jays fan after the Expos left town. And for some reason I always liked the Calgary Stampeders. But having spent some time in Toronto, not living there, it is a nice city. So my Leaf roots go back to when there were 6 teams. And I’m unshakeable in that. Anyway I’m not a big hoops fan but am proud that this great Toronto organization brought a championship north of the border. It’s a huge deal.
  12. Well they do have multiple wins in my lifetime, which tells you a lot I guess. I can actually remember watching their last win in 67 on b/w tv, I was 11, yes it was a long time. But you know, the Cubs did it, so can the Leafs. I like their chances in this window of 5 years or more. I can always count on you to try and kill a nice buzz Veg. But I’m savouring this championship right now. And the Leafs outlook for that matter.
  13. Toronto’a NBA championship, Canada’s NBA championship, yeah baby! And they didn’t trash the city! Gotta love it!
  14. Yep I loved it. Not only that there was only about 15 seconds left in the period when he left the ice. Crazy.
  15. The pic of sad Marchand is better! What the hell was he doing making a change with the Blues with possession in his zone and opponents bearing down. He inexplicably left the ice and his replacement could not pick up the trailer (Pietrangelo) in time who had free path to the net. Made it 2-0 which turned out to be the winner. Boneheaded Marchand! Wtf.
  16. I agree 100% re reviewing major penalties. Quit reviewing the offsides and review the major penalties! Couple other points. Does it not say something about the state of the NHL when crosschecking off a faceoff (or anytime really) is a routine play which is normally not even penalized? Call the freakin’ penalties! The players will adjust. Secondly if an infraction results in a serious injury, then perhaps a major should be called. In the Eakin case I agree current precedent does not warrant it so it was unfair. But maybe over the summer a directive can be given that clear infractions which result in serious injury are subject to a major penalty. Look Eakin was no angel in this. It was a fairly violent crosscheck that contacted Pavelski high, barely below the neck. The height of the impact gave Eakin more leverage resulting in Pavelski falling, where Stastny also contributed by shoving the defenceless Pavelski downward into the ice. I’m saying that with the proper advance notice to players and coaches that this should always be a major. Another example would be where Crosby severed Methot’s pinky off with a slash. Should be a/ reviewable for sure and... b/ should be a major penalty. Yes it’s a routine hack frequently uncalled and that’s a problem in itself. (Yes they have clamped down a bit on those, well done). But it should be a major in my new world. Hack or crosscheck someone and cause serious injury and it’s a major. “Make it so” I say!
  17. For Edm sake it would be nice if it is a career ending injury.
  18. You are also a candidate for the Costanza opposite theory my friend! Lol
  19. I hate playoff pools. My pool was based on 4 teams going through to semi-finals... TB (duh), Cal, Pit and Stl. 3 of 4 are gone already! Anyone else screwed up? I never win a penny at these. I'm going to do a George Costanza opposite next year. Pick the teams in each series... and go the complete opposite. (My name is George I'm unemployed and live with my parents.)
  20. If anyone finds themselves in Newfoundland, say on the way to... er.. Helsinki? Let me know. I’d be so pumped to hook up with some of my fantasy hockey “family”. Having said that I will be in Calgary this summer!
  21. Yep top 5 guys except Monahan replaces Toews.
  22. Rotten Tomatoes should stick to movie reviews.
  23. What are the chances he resigns in Columbus?
  24. As for Nylander trade him this summer for the best RHD they can get for him. There are teams starved for skilled wingers. Edmonton?
