  1. Yeah my sarcasm translated poorly.
  2. I think Tanev fits the bill of a second pair D man, right?
  3. Arizona has terrific golf courses, open 12 months a year. If you follow phil on Instagram, it comes as no surprise that it was on his list. I'm excited about joseph as part of this deal. I think that's even a little more than I'd expected. Even if galchenyuk doesn't work out and walks after this year, theres still something to look forward to in the future. Would love to see them add a second pair d man next week. Maybe add a third line winger. I'm a little worried about the third line still. Not sure bjugstad can carry it.
  4. Basketball is a bad comparison, I think, because you can make a run with 3 great players. That would never work in hockey. Baseball is a pretty fair comparison though, I think.
  5. NHL already does pretty heavy revenue-sharing, though, if I'm not mistaken. Much more so than the other leagues.
  6. I think it's also worth noting that the salary cap was introduced at a time when the league wasn't really doing very well, and revenue was low. Revenue has skyrocketed since then, so teams have more and more money to spend. This is driving the cap up. In a backwards sort of way, the GMs are forcing the league to raise the cap, rather than the cap forcing the GMs to limit salary numbers. Eventually revenue will level off, and so will contracts... right? maybe?
  7. Didn't think I could hate Gudas any more than I already do, but this might just do it...
  8. 10% or less, I'd say. Exactly 0% that he signs before July 1.
  9. Also check out the post game celebrations for Djurgarden in Sweden. Not quite as creative as these, but still pretty cool
  10. Reminds me of college football teams singing the alma mater with their fans after a game. Nothing wrong with it from where I'm sitting. Plus, how can you hate the canes? They're so harmless. And went through some tough years. Plus they're the old whalers and everyone loves the whalers.
  11. I seem to recall the games being numbered on the official game sheet at nhl.com. that was a few years ago though. Not sure if it's still the case.
  12. Someone should explain to them the difference between a whale and a wolf...
  13. The thought of a sea raccoon will give me nightmares for weeks...
  14. I doubt they'd do Sound because of the Seattle Sounders, who are wildly popular there.
  15. These are mostly stupid. Kraken? Come on. I doubt they go with Kraken. And they won't go with Cougars (too many Huskies fans would hate them; plus the Victoria Cougars are a historical rival of the Seattle Metropolitans, right?). Whales won't happen because of the Canucks. Eagles won't happen because of Philly. Totems won't happen because it toes that line of political correctness... why risk it. Although it is among the most obvious choices... it's been used many times for Seattle hockey teams, and I've never heard it used anywhere else for a sports team. So you're left with the following, ranked in my order of preference... 1) Evergreens/Emeralds -- Might as well lump these two together. I do think green will be featured prominently in the color scheme. For some reason, I feel like Emeralds is the more likely of these two. 2) Rainiers -- OK, I guess? 3) Seals/Sea Lions -- These are basically interchangeable. There's already been a Seals, so I don't think they'd go that way. Sea Lions is fine. 4) Sockeyes -- Like the article implies... don't name your team after a fish. 5) Firebirds -- OK, but awfully close to the Thunderbirds, who I assume are continuing to play in Seattle? 6) Renegades -- Yawn. Kind of surprised they don't have Metropolitans on there. Everyone loves a throwback, and they are one of the oldest pro hockey teams around. Going back to a classic name worked for Ottawa!
  16. It's an interesting scenario. Let me pose this to the executive committee and see what we want to do in terms of setting a precedent here. I'm not opposed to just making Nylander count at 6.962 across the board, including this season. We'll have a verdict in the next day or two.
  17. Cough... cam talbot... cough.
  18. Quenneville's waiting for that call from St. Louis. ...or Pittsburgh?
  19. Or maybe I'm the one injuring these guys...
  20. Sprong's gotta go. Although, to be fair... Wilson hasn't been any more effective on the fourth line than Sprong was. When Brassard comes back, the logjam gets real. Problem for the Penguins is that their most logical trade assets (Sprong and Brassard) aren't doing anything to increase their trade value... Those two players also only hit the Pens' cap for a total of $3.75 mil, so there's not a lot of wiggle room.
  21. This trade definitely doesn't solve the Penguins' problems (which are primarily their third line center and their D), but I think it's an upgrade. Hopefully it can have some kind of positive impact on the room and overall team energy. Sad for Hornqvist though... he and Hagelin are really close friends.
  22. I don't think Pearson's terrible... I think he is (or at least, should be) a solid 20+20 player. As opposed to Hagelin who is more of a 10+20 kind of guy. Pearson's also 4 years younger. You make a good point about the term... it's a little bit of a risk. But we've seen Penguins reclamation projects go pretty well in the past, I have faith they can turn Pearson around... kind of like Sheahan last year.
  23. Love this deal for the Pens. Rust is just as good as Hagelin, if not better. Hagelin was totally expendable.
