Vegeta
Lets Have Fun here we all know Montreal is Dieing for A #1 Center and they also Need someone to play with Either Weber or Petry in top4 Lets Be Rafter Gms Trade Proposal #1 Montreal Trades Alex Galchenyuk and a 1st rounder in 2018 For Brodie + Bennett CGY defense is stacked so the lost of Brodie ( hamonic coming in ) doesnt hUrt and they get a decent Upgrade on Bennett ( upside) we Get a #2 Center Ready ( with #1 Potential) and a player to fix our Dcore and we turn around and Sign to a 2year deal someone Like Joe Thorton as a stopgap for 2 years discuss... Option #2 Break the Bank on SHattenkirk we sell him the chance to win a cup here and play alongside Weber for the rest of his career we instantly have 1 of the best Defensive group in the league and we build from the net back.. we keep galchenyuk and live or die with him as a center
Duxburger
Montreal stays put and waits for tavares lol !??!?!?
Bluecharm
Man I don't know. The organization seems a bit lost. But they still have Price. His play declined slightly last year though. But the play of Plekanacs and Ghallagher also tailed off a bit. And Galchenyuk did not take a step forward. Sergachev is looking like a stud Dman, now gone, but Drouin can help offensively. With Markov also gone there are blue line issues. Not a big lot in the pipeline. They will see how far Price can carry them but the time for a rebuild may be approaching. Salros
Not much more to say. Bluecharm pretty much covered it. The forwards need to be much better and the blue line must prove it can be reliable. Price can't be the best player on the ice all the time. Option 1 and 2 ain't happening. But then again I was sure there would be a women President. It does seem the pendulum of success between Montréal and Toronto is swinging west. Duxburger
what do we think of jakub jerabek ? I know he isn't Markov... but it's been quiet around this czeck dman? I know Tavares is a long shot, but with the islanders situation with the arena and him not being signed yet, thought it could be plausible but I do get the fact that MTL itself has a management doing the head scratch. Unfortunate we had to sergachev go ! I was pretty stoked after watching him play in Windsor what are people's thoughts on what Montreals future is ? And who should stay or go ?? Seems to be a fair bit of montrealers out here ?!?
leevaughn
Hiring Therrien was bad from the start. Julien may be able to right the ship. I still dont like him either. new year , newish coach. lets see if he can light a fire under these boys. Everybody also seems to forget 6'3 220 pounds of Karl alzner . Bagwell
Saw this in a trading forum. I'm curious to see how you MTL fans feel about it. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins *Conditional 2018 3rd-round pick (if Gallagher scores 20G) for Brendan Gallagher 2018 2nd-round pick 2018 4th-round pick
Zipper
Don't think Edmonton is gonna trade a centre. They've been lacking in depth at C for 10 years. So much so that they just traded one of their top wingers for a C. I think they're plan is to run Draisaitl with Mcdavid, and RNH, Strome and Letestu as their other centres. First time in years they've had competent bottom 6 centres.
originaljroc
Still don't think Edmonton landed a face off specialist, though. That liability really showed up against the Ducks. I would be in favour of trading RNH because he's a $6M defensive centre who doesn't score enough and doesn't win enough draws. You could find a $3M guy to give the same production. But failing landing that guy, the Oilers should not trade RNH or their centre depth would be crap.
Salros
Montreal needs more than RNH and it's going to cost them since everyone knows how bad they need a #1 center for this season. If SJ falters out of the gate, would SJ be willing to part with Thornton. He could be a great 1 year solution and probably would not cost the Canadiens more than a decent prospect or draft pick. byz
SJS has run Thornton - Pavelski - Couture down the middle before, all making big money. If the centers are able to carry a line, I don't think money matters *as much*, but the guys have to be able to shuffle around the line-up. Draisaitl has already, and I definitely think Nuge can be shuffled around too. Top six forwards on the team are still Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Nuge, Lucic, Maroon & likely Strome in that order, though your mileage may differ. If Oilers are worried about money, why the flip did Russell get $4m for forever? For the proposed trade, I don't see Gallagher as being a good enough return for Nuge, by a decent amount. jawlesscdizzle
For me the problem with MTL is they've hitched their wagon to the 30+ year old Carey price show for the next 8 years +Weber. With gaps at forward and defense. they're not really operating from a position of strength for trade options to improve likely just moving the deficiency around. Duxburger
hopefully we can get these Mtl prospects (slim pickings) to step up! how far is noah juulsen, nikit scherbak ? MCcarron needs to do something as well. i know therrien wasnt the greatest for the young guys, maybe julien will give them a shot "a la pasternak"
Ralphdog
Just an interesting side note, this will be the first time since the 91-92 season that the habs will start a season without a Russian born player on their roster.

He has huge size and is kinda mean but too slow to be effective ( he cant be ryan reaves) is best shot is become 4th line faceoff specialist like boyle while putting up 30ish pts in a great year Juulsen seems the only worthy prospect to talk about , after a bad year ( post draft) he turned it around last year, and looked quite impressive for team canada U20, he was there go to guy to shut the enemies ( 2nd best dman after chabot) Hudon.... meh I read Desharnais but a bit more gritty and maybe smarter Reway was electric But that shady illness from last year is cause for concern well see. I like victor Mete seems good

byz
How do you Habs fans predict the D depth chart/pairings shaping up?
Salros
Montreal D pairing Weber/Schlemko Petry/Alzner Benn/Streit Davidson/? Life is never perfect and leaves Weber wanting something more but Schlemko could be just good enough to let Weber be Weber. The 2nd pairing would be quite solid. The rest are decent dman and if they play up to their potential, they could turn out to be quite solid. If Juulsen can take the next step, he could give the bottom pairing a little more scoring ability. One fact that should make Price happy, he's got some very good shot blockers in front of him. Streit can't handle the minutes anymore. You get what you get. Weber and Alzner can both move the puck fine enough to get the job done.
